Tips for new Londoners

Ok so you’re making the leap and moving to Manchester, Paris (from my job teaching overseas) but London but living here isn’t always easy. So here are my top tips on how to survive and make the most out of 1) Get to know your tube etiquette. If you insist on standing on the left on the escalator then you will get abuse from Londoners, verbal, physical or even (worst of all) psychological - those evil stares and big huffy sighs from commuters can really get to you! Similarly don’t spend ages finding your Oyster card at the ticket barriers, it’s making my flesh crawl just thinking about it. Have your Oyster card ready in your hand as you go through. Speed is everything in this town!

2) Continuing the theme, if you insist on walking down Oxford Street then don’t think you can walk at a leisurely pace. Central London is for running fast as if you’re late for a job interview, NOT for strolling!

3) Look up. There are loads of cool buildings in London treat Time Out as your Bible. Here you can find the best places to eat, drink and make merry and all from a Londoner’s perspective.

5) Enjoy the diversity. Having lived in loads of different places London’s women. I don’t mean this in a sexist way, but London is one of the coolest, most exciting places in the world. So be proud to live there. Welcome!
