Satay Bar, Brixton

I’d walked past this place for donkey’s years without ever venturing inside. I’m not sure what put me off - it was just one of those things but a leaving party put paid to that and finally I got to venture inside. We ordered an array of cocktails, it was happy hour. Hooray! Unfortunately the non-alcoholic cocktails are the same price as the alcoholic ones which I think is a bit unfair, but anyway…even though we hadn’t booked and it was Friday night, the staff were accommodating and friendly and found us a table because we promised not to stay late. (That intention was blown out of the water or out of the cocktail should I say, as we sank more and more as the evening went on).
To soak up the alcohol we ordered food. The menu is wide and caters well for vegetarians, despite the meat heavy options. Food was brought swiftly, with none of us waiting too long before hot plates of delicious Indonesian meals were placed on our table. More cocktails followed. More smiles and jokes from the staff.
The Satay Bar filled up at an alarming rate despite the downpour outside. What better place to take shelter from the rain?
Not once were we asked to leave, or given funny looks or attitude problems. The atmosphere was lively and exciting and its crowd was a very mixed bag. I have returned since and each visit has been as good as the first one. It’s a perfect place for either a big night out, or a place to visit before heading off to some other attraction that Brixton has to offer and all human life is out on Coldharbour Lane of an evening, adding to the attraction of the place.
Before I go I have just found this fantastic new site on enigin PLC, that energy saving company that seems to be taking over London. How amazing is that? You should really check it out.
